Updated: 9/27/2007 10:03:49 AM
Want to know the secret of being a successful chorus director…who doesn’t. Well, students at Directors College were asked to, “List three habits of successful chorus directors.” Below are some of the responses:
- Directors are specifically positive
- Directors constantly seek to educate themselves
- Directors rely on what they hear
- Directors plan rehearsals and come in with a plan every week based on the needs perceived from the previous week.
- Directors always listen to accurately identify music problems
- Directors look for new ways to educate members on how to be better singers
- Directors are energetic and positive
- Directors recognize that the music tells a story
- Directors practice outside of rehearsal
- Directors set goals for each rehearsal as well as for long range planning
- Directors devour all they can that is available for self-improvement (video, articles, books, etc.)
