Many events to look forward to

Did you know that there are workshops, clinics, and opportunities throughout the year and all around the country available for you to enhance your skills as a director? In addition to our successful programs like CDWI, Outstanding in Front (formerly Director of the Future), and Next Level, there are other events you can attend.

Directors College

This is THE source of education for all directors aspiring to hone their skills. This week long school is intensive and rewarding. The best faculty from all over donates their time and talent to help our directors become better at what they do. Don’t miss the opportunity to participate in this life changing event, held annually at St. Joseph, Missouri. The dates for this year are July 27th – August 3rd. Contact Mike O’Neill at moneill@barbershop.org for additional information.

District Sponsored Education

Schools all over the country provide additional learning opportunities for our directors. These are held at the district level around the Barbershop Harmony Society and can provide a more localized opportunity for you to learn something new about your skills as a director. Refer to your district website for more information on dates and locations.

Directors Seminar

For the third year in a row, we will be conducting a Directors Seminar during our International Convention in July. This year, the seminar will be held on Thursday, July 3rd at 9:00 AM and among our panel of expert directors include Joe Liles, Darin Drown, and Jim Clancy. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to talk face to face with the experts. For this short 50 minute time frame, directors can ask the expert panel anything related to directing a barbershop chorus and what it takes to get to the International stage time and time again.

Contests

A major source of learning is observing, and what better place to observe our fellow directors than at contest? Spring contests are in full force and this year promises to be one of the BEST International contests in recent history. You have two major powerhouses going against each other in the Masters of Harmony and the Ambassadors of Harmony. Not to discount the Sound of the Rockies (3rd place chorus from last year), New Tradition (5th place chorus from last year and perennial top 10 chorus) Voices in Harmony (Greg Lyne’s 6th place chorus from 2007), and those wacky guys from Greendale, Wisconsin, the Midwest Vocal Express. Make sure you make your plans to attend this year in our Homecoming Celebration of Barbershop Harmony…oh yeah…you can learn A LOT too!
