Lorin May is editor of The Harmonizer magazine, where he leads the editorial board and executes or directs all aspects of the magazine, including editorial, design, photography, advertising and production. He also performs extensive writing and photography for the magazine, both bylined and otherwise. Lorin has more than 16 years experience as an editor, writer and designer of magazines, books and newspapers. Before becoming editor for The Harmonizer in 2000-2004, he was Associate Editor, writer and columnist for Crosstalk magazine, where he wrote the popular “Backtalk” technology humor column that was republished extensively on the Internet. From 2004-2006 he did extensive freelance editorial, writing and photography for several magazines including The Harmonizer, and in 2006 returned to the helm. Early in his career, Lorin was the primary editor for approximately 20 popular press books, many of which he also substantially wrote, designed or marketed. In college, he helmed a university newspaper staff of 50 for a campus audience of 14,000, during which time he and other staff won more than a dozen professional journalism awards and the newspaper was named campus organization of the year. Lorin discovered barbershop harmony in 1991, and joined the Society in 1994, where he has competed in numerous quartet contests singing bass, baritone and primarily lead. A 1993 graduate of Weber State University in Journalism, Lorin and his wife, Jennifer, have been married for 15 years and have two handsome sons and two beautiful daughters.
